What We Believe
We're sure that God is good. God is the purest form of
love. God is a mystery. God is at work in the world. God cares about every
person in every situation. God is not small. God will not fit into any box that
human beings create. We believe that understanding and following God is an
unending process. We see the life, ministry, teaching, death, and
resurrection of Jesus as the perfect expression of the love and power of God. We
believe that following Jesus is our highest calling. We believe that when
people let go of their own fears (even a little bit), God has room to do things
in us and through us that we wouldn't think are possible. We believe that
God wants to heal all people. We try to be a part of that healing work.
Our Calling: What Is Important to Us About How to Be Journey
Regardless of where we are in life as individuals, we seek to be a
radically inclusive community. We work to remain open, messy, unslick,
vulnerable (which can be sometimes uncomfortable), and yet always encouraging
and safe for all.
Together, we seek out what God wants us to do as a
community, and what God wants us to do as individuals. We pray about every
decision we make and everything we do as a community, and we expect God to
answer those prayers and guide us. We find this to be absolutely practical.
We expect that much of what we value is contrary to what our culture
values. It may not make common sense - but that sounds like Jesus to us. That's
part of why we are a community Što remind each other of who we really are, not
who our culture tells us we are. We are God's children, and followers of Jesus.
We are seeking to live a different kind of life, a life that matters.
It's about following Jesus, not about being a Christian - It's a
process, not a destination - It's a path, not a club - There's no end, no finish
point - It's a journey.
We are not affiliated with any denomination; we
are an independent community of people from many backgrounds and ways of life.
What brings us together is our desire to help each other follow Christ and serve
God's work in the world.
"God, I don't have great faith, but I can be
faithful. My belief in you may be seasonal, but my faithfulness will not. I will
follow in the way of Christ. I will act as though my life and the lives of
others matter. I will love. I have no greater gift than to offer my life. Take
it. - Real Live Preacher, Gordon Atkinson
Our Vision: What
We Believe God Wants Us to Do
When Jesus was asked to define the most
important thing in life, he answered: "Love God with all your heart, with
all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength; and love other
people as you love yourself." - Luke 10:27
We believe that when He says
"Love, Jesus means serving, healing and giving. We therefore understand our
community's calling as a commandment to: Love God and Love Other People
Because we are committed to helping God love and heal the world, our
hope is that we can be a Servant Church. Journey IFC does not exist solely for
the benefit of its members. Instead, we ask God for help in giving our gifts,
resources, grace, and love away to others.
"It's not about doing great
things; it's about doing small things with great love. - Mother Teresa
