The Sanctuary for Inner Peace is a spiritual community located in south Austin. It was started in 1993 by Rev. John-Michael Caringworth who studied under a catholic monk who lived in India for 45 years exploring the parallels between Christianity and the Vedic Scriptures. John-Michael has also had many opportunities over the last 20 years to study intensively under the guidance of a variety of mystics and saints from around the world. This rich experiential background enables him to convey the essence of esoteric subjects in ways that make them easily applicable to the most mundane of daily moments thereby facilitating an ever increasing sense of God's presence within every moment of life. A teacher of meditation, a leader of prayer, gifted with laying on of hands and a heartfelt presence for the sick or dying, John-Michael leads our parish in ways that have consistently enabled us to trust that "still small voice within us" in ways that spirtually enrich each day in beautiful and nurturing ways.

You may notice that on the web site, Rev. Caringworth is referred to in some places as an "abbot." This is true because there are a small number of individuals who have requested the assembling of a religious order within the Sanctuary for Inner Peace so that individulas could have the opportunity to come, live and study in this way within a semi-monastic context. A land based monastery is in the works to be built within the next few years just outside Austin.

For more information, visit the "official" Sanctuary for Inner Peace Web Site.
